Joshua House Seeks Your Contibutions

Joshua House, Inc. has established working relationships with various federally and locally funded organizations and foundations that support the mission of improving our communities, here and across the nation. As of this date, February 2008, we have been in business for close to 5 years. In that time, we have become widely known throughout the community as one of, if not the best facility of its kind. We work with city, state and federal agencies, such as; Department of Corrections, the Federal Parole Office and the Behavioral Health Services to take men who need structure and support to transition back into society or to re-establish their faith in themselves to be men of worth.

Recently, studies show that giving men who have been incarcerated the opportunity to learn about their addictions and struggles through programs like Joshua House, can prevent them from returning to their old lifestyles. Therefore, we take men on probation/parole and give them a good starting point for re-building their lives. This is accomplished on a day-to-day basis, with lots of support from staff and fellow clients who have been in the program and encourage each other in the new walk of sobriety, honesty and integrity.

In conjunction with the above clientele, we also focus on helping men in the throngs of addiction, those who have mental disorders, or those who find themselves homeless for various reasons and want a safe place to live. Many of our referrals come from organizations such as Codac, Cope, Compass and La Frontera. We reach out to anyone who sincerely wants to change their situation and become the husbands, fathers, sons, brothers and friends they were intended to be.

We always have need for the basics which include: food, bedding, kitchen appliances and utensils, dressers, twin beds, alarm clocks, TVs, radios, misc. household items, etc. We would love to have the finances to build a nice meeting hall so we can meet in a climate-controlled environment. We like to share movies that pertain to addiction, use teaching videos, have live music and we want a place where the men can eat and socialize together. Learning new social skills is a must, along with making new, clean and sober friends. New friendships develop when people spend good quality time with each other, laughing, eating, cooking, watching movies, playing card games, etc……..all these things are part of recovery because they come to realize they can have fun without drugs or alcohol.

Your contributions are very needed and appreciated. With your help, we can make a significant and positive impact on the lives of the men we work with, their families and the community.
